Debate or Deliberate?

Getting beyond the one-sided conversation through deliberation.

MosaicLab is heading to beautiful WA to to lead this training experience in partnership with our friend AHA Consulting.   We will be in Perth to share our insights and practical experience as facilitators of more than twenty deliberative engagement processes from large scale citizen juries to smaller panels.

Deliberation is often seen as a utopian ideal that is too cumbersome and costly to implement. Addressing this misconception, the workshop will highlight examples of deliberative processes that have seen anywhere between 25-150+ everyday people successfully grapple with a big issue or decision through a genuine sharing of the dilemma. These processes have resulted in rich rewards for both participants and decision-makers, and transformed the way these organisations engage with their communities and consumers.

Hosted and joined by Joel Levin from Aha! Consulting, who has also worked with deliberative models in Perth and with MosaicLab on the east coast, this one day workshop promises to provide people with

  • An understanding of the difference between consultation and deliberation
  • Developing the principle of quality deliberation
  • Exploration of practical examples drawn from real projects
  • Insights from both the facilitators and the staff in organisations on what it takes to make deliberative processes successful
