Join MosaicLab for a free evening of networking, learning and conversation. Our special guests will

  • explore ‘what’s next’ for deliberative engagement processes across the globe,

  • discuss how deliberation can be applied in a a local context,

  • consider changing expectations and requirements affecting councils, including legislative reform,

  • reflect on how the public sector can engage effectively within this new and changing world.

 
Brett Hennig - Sortition Foundation - International Guest Speaker

Dr. Brett Hennig

International guest speaker Dr. Brett Hennig is a director and co-founder of the Sortition Foundation. The foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, has been involved in a broad range of deliberative processes in the UK. The organisation campaigns for a world free from partisan politicking, where representative random samples of everyday people make decisions in an informed, deliberative and fair environment.

Brett - a taxi driver, software engineer, social justice activist, mathematics tutor, PhD in astrophysics - is also the author of The End of Politicians: Time for a Real Democracy’.

 
Louisa Curry - Local Government Victoria - Guest Speaker

Louisa Curry

Guest speaker Louisa Curry brings a local focus to the conversation as the Senior Adviser Governance Projects at Local Government Victoria .

Lou was also project manager of the Democracy in Geelong ‘Geelong Citizens Jury’. This ground-breaking engagement process saw 100 randomly selected citizens deliberate over and provide recommendations on the structure of its future elected council.


The details

  • Time: Networking drinks commence at 5pm. The ‘conversation’ will begin at 5.45pm

  • Venue: Donkey Wheel House, 673 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC (near Southern Cross Station)

  • Catering: Drinks, light refreshments and finger food provided

  • What to bring: Nothing except a readiness to learn from and connect with others!

As part of this day of learning and sharing, MosaicLab will be offering deliberation 101 training for government staff and decision makers. Taking place during the afternoon (2pm-5pm) at the same venue (the Hub Southern Cross).
