REBUILDING TRUST EXPERIMENT
About the invitation

Trust in government is the backbone of any democracy. Without trust, it’s harder for governments to take risks, show vision and bring people together.

Fewer than one in three Australians believe that they really have a say in what the government does. And three quarters of Australians do not trust that there are enough checks and balances to ensure that those in government cannot abuse their power.

But it might sound worse than it actually is…

Australians trust each other. We also trust experts. We want to be more involved in policy decisions, and we want to see more innovation in our democratic system.

That’s why AMPLIFY is inviting you to join us for the Rebuilding Trust Experiment where we’ll tackle the big question:

How can we improve trust in our governments?

And learn together how to have difficult conversations with people who don’t necessarily share our views.

The Rebuilding Trust Experiment will be held on Thursday 31 October from 5 – 9 pm. You must be able to attend the whole session.

Payment for participation

If you are selected to take part, we will give you $100 to thank you for your time and feedback.  You need to be able to attend the full day to receive the payment.

About the rebuilding trust experiment

AMPLIFY will bring together 20-30 community members from Toowoomba, each with different perspectives on government.

Throughout the experiment, you’ll engage with speakers and dive into discussions to find uncommon ground with your fellow community members. Sometimes, we’ll break into smaller groups for deeper conversations. Professional facilitators will be there to guide the discussions and make sure everyone gets a chance to have their say.

The participants in the session will prioritise issues to shape the focus of AMPLIFY’s work for 2025. AMPLIFY will publicly report back on how the work of this session is being used to effect change and improve our democracy in 2025.

No need to be an expert - just come ready to listen, share your thoughts, and take part in meaningful discussions.

Future opportunities

This is one of four experiments being hosted by AMPLIFY this year, each focusing on a unique and important topic to the health of our democracy.

If you cannot make the date in Toowoomba, we encourage you to stay connected for a future experiments being held by AMPLIFY online later in the year.

To express interest in staying update, simply indicate on the registration form that you’d like to receive an invitation and we’ll be in touch.
