Engaging Diverse Voices Part two

MosaicLab’s free Lunch and Learn community engagement webinars kick off again next month.

After the successful re-launch of these webinars at the end of 2022, we’ve planned lots more fascinating conversations packed with rich insights this year.

These sessions are specially designed for facilitators and engagement practitioners and delivered by our very own team, with some special guests along the way.

REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN

Our February webinar delivers Part Two of Engaging Diverse Voices, building on the focus of Part One, which was all about diversity and access.  As requested by our newsletter subscribers, this webinar will explore how to engage diverse voices through random recruitment or ‘democratic lotteries’

Ensuring diverse perspectives are included in your engagement will help you to get a better idea of what views are held more broadly by the community and not just hear the so-called ‘loud minority’ or activated few.

People speaking up and expressing strong opinions naturally command your attention. It can be tempting to put a lot of effort into responding to or planning around these individuals, however they may not represent the whole community.

Randomly-selecting participants is one way to ensure a representative community (or mini-public) participates in the discussions. This will improve diversity and balance views.

Here are the details of our next Lunch and Learn webinar.

FEBRUARY: Engaging Diverse Voices part two – Recruiting different voices

Thursday 16 February 2023
12.30pm – 1.30pm AEDT

This one-hour lunch webinar will unpack the mystery of random stratified recruitment. We’ll explore how this method of inviting people in can tap into communities and voices you do not usually hear from. We’ll share insights and tips on:

  • what we mean by diverse voices and why random recruitment can help

  • some different approaches (‘the how’) to random stratified recruitment including:

  • the costs

  • the risks

  • the pros and cons

  • recent examples of projects that used randomised selection – how we did it and what we learned.

WHAT’S A CONVERSATION CIRCLE?

New in 2023, ‘Leaders’ Conversation Circles’ aim to enrich your learning further. Yes, the word ‘leader’ means you!

Each alternate month, participants can bring along lessons from the previous session. Tell us what worked, what didn’t and explore ways to take the skills to another level.

These sessions are more conversational and about learning from each other. They are a chance to ask more questions and explore how to apply the skills to your situations in greater depth.

  • Share stories across different leaders in the engagement and facilitation space

  • Learn from each other

  • Ask questions we can all have a go at answering

  • Go deeper with the learnings from the previous month

Every session is facilitated by a specialist engagement practitioner from MosaicLab, and you’ll receive free resources following the session to support your learning.
